There are moments that are pivotal in the history of a Star Ship. This is such a time for the USS Independence. A new Captain, a new crew …a new beginning.
Captain Idril Mar has been placed in Command. The crew is now composed of a mixture of Officers from the Independence , the Ronin and newly graduated Ensigns Remo , Park and Yasre.
While the individuals go through the task of integrating into a single effective crew they must also enter Grendellai space. Their mission is to retrieve a number of Type X Phasers that have fallen into the predatory Dogmen’s hands and try to discover the source of the illegal arms.
An away team led by Commander Moranta undergoes cosmetic surgery to change their appearance and boards the FIF – Carabine. Their hunt for the source of the illegal arms leads them to Asteropolis a major trading base of the FTU.
Meanwhile the Independence under the Command of Captain Mar searches for any traces of the Grendellai and the Type X Phasers. It is not long before they discover the crippled home ship of the Mongminzu. These introverted nomadic people travel space looking for a safe resting place away from others.
The Independence ’s rescue of the Mongminzu is interrupted by the return of the Grendellai’s responsible for the attack. Somewhat atypically these Grendellai are only too willing to negotiate for the surrender of the Type X phasers.
Back on Asteropolis the undercover team is invited to the auction of the weapons being orchestrated by the nefarious Bung Kho Cartel. The mission appears a success despite the unexpected appearance of a fake Star Fleet away team followed by a three way fire fight between the Cartel’s Security forces and the fake and the legitimate Star Fleet.
On one side of the scales the away team has escaped unharmed, destroyed the Phasers and introduced a computer virus to remove all data relating to the Phasers from the Cartels computer system .On the other side the Cartel now have proof of Star Fleet interfering in the affairs of the independent FTU.
The rescue of the Mongminzu is further complicated by the arrival of another warlike Grendellai pack that waste no time in attacking the Independence . The short but savage space battle that followed was easily won by the Independence and its wing of F-150 fighters. After the Independence wraps up the aftermath of the battle the Momgminzu depart to continue their quest for a home world.
As the FIF Carabine and the USS Independence return to DS -17 some loose threads remain from their respective missions. Commander Moranta returns with a Cartel operative in stasis under questionable legal jurisdiction and the Independence returns with six Grendellai war ships in tow. In theory the Grendellai will surrender their Type X phasers at DS-17 however their true intentions remain hidden.
